The only time full dowelling is not necessary for a stacked construction is if the lower tiers are a firm fruit cake or carrot cake. Repeat stacking additional cake layers on cake boards stacking no more than 2 layers 6 in. Surprisingly the cake using the new stacking system remained upright even with the entire weight of the second cake on it.
